Places to stay in Galway
Galway is a unique county situated along the Wild Atlantic Way. Galway City is a bustling city with excellent hotels, guest house, bed and breakfast and self-catering and are steeped in history and heritage while areas such as Clifden, Connemara and the Aran Islands provide a stunning natural beauty that is unmatched.
Galway embodies the traditional, slightly wild beauty many visitors to Ireland are looking for. The green expanses of the Connemara region are where you'll find remote villages where Irish is still spoken; and where you'll find those white, windswept coastlines you see people riding horses along in the adverts for Ireland. Off Galway's shipwreck lined shores are the rocky surprise of the Aran Islands and Inishbofin, more places where Irish lore and legends are strong.
But along with these wild expanses Galway has Galway city. Colourful and lively, with a wonderful live music scene, Galway city is a surprise for a lot of visitors. It does have its historic side, it's dilapidated medieval walls and shops selling Aran jumpers, but Galway's history is alive rather than a museum piece.
Across from Galway the Aran Islands offer more wild and windswept, green and peaky landscape. As well as fascinating archaeological sites and colourful real Irish pubs with their warm traditions.
